Camping and Hiking Trips with Emily

Emily and I have a long history of hanging out together....

Emily is a senior now (as of this writing Feb 2009) at A&M now and a life that is coming along quite nicely, thank you. When she was still a little girl she asked me to take her backpacking and I promised that when she turned 13 I would.

And I did...

This is the short history of our camping history. We've made four camping/hiking trips together.

The first one was a backpacking trip into the San Juan National Forest (picture from my journal at the left) when she was still 13.

Boy, that was fun and I'll tell you this, a Dad has lot to think about when he takes his daughter into the wilderness. But we did ok and had some nice memories.

We had a pretty good scare on this trip when shadows on the tent looked like a bear was standing outside out tent.

Fortunately, it was a false alarm.

Emily sure is one cute gal. I sure did have fun, and I think she did, too.

She still talks wistfully about that trip even 9 years later.

The rocks Emily was sitting on were left behind by a glacier that melted 250 million years ago.

I was still a little baby then.

We also took a trip into the Bridger-Teton Wilderness 4 years later... but I can't find any pictures at the moment of that one.

Oh yeah... I started this story out telling you about the Lost Maple trips...

Some kid jumping off a rock, it wasn't me (but could have been 40 years ago!!)

Emily is contemplating going into the cold water.

One of the ways to deal with the heat is to take a swim in an artesian spring....

I didn't think she would do it!!!
